Frequently asked questions about home appliances.

Every appliance includes a model number tag. The model number is usually labeled  with the word MODEL followed by a combination of letters and numbers. It can be found on the inside of an appliance or on the inside of the door of an appliance.

If your dryer is getting hot but is taking a long time to dry clothes, your dryer vent might be clogged.  Turn on your dryer, go outside and put your hand over the vent.  If you can’t feel any air coming out of the vent then your vent needs to be cleaned out. If you are sure that your vent is cleaned and your dryer is still not heating, there could be a mechanical problem that can be fixed with a service call.

Repairing broken appliances is the most environmental choice. Research has shown that it is usually more economical to repair your appliance than to buy a new one, but every situation is different depending on factors such as the age and condition of the appliance.

If it seems like your appliance has no power, check the breaker panel and reset the breaker that is dedicated to the appliance. If possible then check to make sure the appliance is properly plugged into the outlet.

There could be numerous reasons why your ice maker isn’t working properly. Try checking through this list to see if these quick fixes help:

  1. Check to make sure your ice maker is turned on.
  2. Check to make sure that nothing is clogging the ice maker mold.  Sometimes a piece of ice will get stuck in the mold and prevent the ice maker from working properly.
  3. Make sure the control arm is lowered.
  4. On some refrigerator models resetting the ice maker control button on the computer panel is needed.

There are a few important reasons why your front loading washing machine may smell bad. Using too much detergent or fabric softener can cause a sticky build up around the washer gasket. In this case setting your washing machine on basket wash every now and then will keep your washer clean and reduce the bad smell. Leaving wet clothes in the washer for an extended period of time will cause the clothes and the basket to smell moldy.  Make sure to remove washed clothes as soon as possible from the washer. Leaving the door of the washer open when not in use will allow air to circulate and prevent moisture trapped inside the basket to become smelly.
